Program areas at Macculloch Hall Historical Museum
Conservation & curatorial- coupled with regular collection assessment, monitoring, conservation, and storage maintenance, during fy23 mhhm continued to organize and rehouse collections storage in accordance with professional standards, conserve george Macculloch's campeche chair, and installed the thomas nast caricaturamas for permanent public display.
Exhibits & research- during fy23 mhhm presented thomas nast's the grand caricaturama (august 2022 to present), thomas nast's christmas illustrations (december 2022-january 2023) and thomas nast's political animals (may 2023 to present).
Education & programs- youth educational programming, developed according to new jersey state learning standards, engaged students, scouts, children, families, and teachers with local, state and national history. Highlights included dig it! Plant it! Eat it!, in partnership with st. peter's episcopal bilingual vacation bible school, pride, and affiliate of eclc in chatham, children on the green, the banyan school, neighborhood house, and the salvation army child care center among other partners. Mhhm trained 5 interns from colleges and universities including university of saint elizabeth, rutgers, university of north Texas, and skidmore.
Admission is charged to visitors of the Museum in order to help defray the cost of maintaining the Museum.
Rotating exhibits are shown throughout the year which educate the public about english and american decorative arts, china, oriental rugs, and thomas nast prints.
