The mission of Maine Equal Justice Project is to provide people with low- income and others with access to research, education, and advocacy services in legislative, administrative, and judicial forums and to advocate for policies that provide basic standards of fairness for people in need. Maine Equal Justice Project dba mainers for health care led a statewide ballot campaign to approve medicaid expansion under the affordable care act. The ballot questions passed with 59% of the vote.

Program areas at Maine Equal Justice Project

Education, research, and advocacy on the health and economic benefits of medicaid to the state of Maine. Produced research papers, held community meetings, organized community members, and conducted education and marketing campaigns to inform Maine voters on the referendum question voted on in november 2017 which asked voters to approve expanding medicaid in the state of Maine under the provisions of the federal affordable care act. The question was approved at the ballot.
