Preserve Maine's lobstering heritagethe mlca works to preserve Maine's lobstering heritage through the publication of a monthly newspaper, landings. Mlca educates the public and lobster industry stakeholders about the unique characteristics of Maine's lobstering traditions, its history and heritage, ongoing research to maintain the sustainability of the resource, and its non-harmful and non-wasteful commercial fishing practices. This publication is distributed to more than 6,500 individuals, businesses and government organizations who care about preserving Maine's lobster industry and coastal communities. The publication and archived searchable content are available at mlcalliance.org.support lobstering communitiesthe mlca collaborates with other non-profit organizations and fishing organizations dedicated to supporting sustainable fisheries, vibrant communities, and preserving fishing opportunities for future generations. The mlca attends meetings and engages with stakeholders in support of Maine's working waterfront, scientific research to sustain the Maine lobster industry's strong stewardship practices, and explores opportunities to identify fishing practices that minimize potential harm to marine mammals and support a healthy lobster fishery. Relief fundthe mlca relief fund supports distressed commercial lobstermen and their families. The relief fund accepts public contributions used to support lobstering families throughout Maine in times of need.
