Program areas at Mainly Mozart
Classical programming and core series Since 1989, Mainly Mozarts annual May June Festival has brought the largest assemblage of concertmasters and principal players from the nations leading orchestras to San Diego, while attracting over 10000 residents and visitors. Orchestral concerts are complemented by the chamber music series, Chamber Players, where members of the Festival Orchestra perform works of chamber music inspired by the Orchestral repertoire at the Timken Museum of Art in Balboa Park and locations regionwide. Mainly Mozarts January June chamber music series, Spotlight, presents world class chamber musicians performing Mozart and the Masters in intimate settings in intermission free concerts preceded by social mixers and followed by lively discussions between artists and audience.
Innovative programming designed to celebrate the creativity of Mozart Mozart and the Mind Exploring the Music Brain Effect brings together leading music brain researchers, music therapists, neuroscientists, musicians, and the general public in presentations, concerts, and open air events that explore musics effects on cognitive function. Evolution celebrating todays musical innovators in the spirit of Mozart blends classical music with jazz, blues, alternative, and world music. This series features one week of all Mexican programming and concerts throughout Tijuana and San Diego.
Educational Outreach living Composers in school assemblies teach elementary school children about the lives, times, and music of Mozart, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky in underserved schools offered in English and Spanish. The newly formed Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra is a year round education and performance program committed not only to teaching music, but to building well rounded citizens. This orchestra joins forces with students from Tijuanas Centro de Artes Musicales to form the Youth Orchestra of the Californias, fostering international understanding in our youth. Concerts for children and young adults on the autism spectrum is a three concert series at Vista Hills Stein Education Center that engages children and young adults on the autism spectrum and with emotional disorders and behavioral concerns. Outreach concerts for children and adults including seniors and homeless are performed year round.
