Program areas at Many Hands for Haiti
Many Hands for Haiti is a 501(c)3 dedicated to "transform together to be love in action in a broken world." We accomplish this by working in relationship with children, families, and communities in both Haiti and the u.s. to unleash their god-given talents and resources to meet the challenges of the day. Top 3 program services accomplished: 1)love in action: love in action (lia) is our initiative to rebuild, restore, and renew haitian communities by strengthening families. This includes a first 1,000 days program for newborn mothers and their children two and under, including access to food, medical checks, and educational opportunities. In 2020, we had 211 families attending this five day a week program and performed 350 wellness health-checks on children under the age of two. As part of this initiative, we also operate an early childhood learning center for three-, four-, and five-year-olds, called the school of light. In 2020, we had 100 children in this program. Lastly, as part of this initiative, we have a power to the parents program, investing in adult education, livestock husbandry, and community gardens. In 2020, we had 85 families participating in these programs. 2)impact journey: we believe all are broken people, regardless if we live in Haiti or the u.s. we put significant effort in creating space for these two cultures to experience one another, allowing god to work through broken people for redemptive purposes. In 2020, we sent 135 u.s. Volunteers into Haiti to work with our haitian staff and communities. The relationships built are truly transformative, changing perceptions in both cultures and creating opportunity to become better people by working together. We fully coordinate these trips and ease the anxiety in traveling to a foreign country. 3)ethical feeding programs: our feeding programs seek to meet the need for physical need for food regardless of race, gender, religion, or ethnic background. In 2020, we managed and/or provided 1,500,000 meals in Haiti, including feeding programs at 19 schools, 4 orphanages, 0- to 5-year-old program, and numerous community feedings to individual families. In addition, we grow our own food and raise livestock in Haiti, with over 200 plantain trees, community garden, a congo bean field, and peanut field. We also delivered over 63 pregnant goats to families, performed over 600 community goat health checks, and managed our herd of 50+ male, female, and kid goats.
