The Marina Orth Foundation, a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity, strives to improve the education of children and youth from disadvantaged socioeconomic areas in medellin, colombia and nuqui, choco, one of the most bio-diverse, yet poorest areas of colombia on the pacific coast. Our mission is to develop stem skills with a focus on english, technology and robotics, social/emotional learning, and leadership to empower our students. We are convinced that their success not only depends on classroom learning but also self-confidence, teamwork, and perseverance. A knowledge of technology and english combined with strong interpersonal skills will enable them to compete in the 21st century and to help achieve their dreams and goals. (continued on schedule o)we also train teachers to become more creative and digitally competent in the classroom so that their students can excel and contribute to the development of their country. Our program contributes to the un sustainable development goals.in 2022, with thanks to our private/public partners, some of our achievements include:- working with 9,018 students in 23 schools and education centers.- 213 students participated in our new innovative program of teaching robotics and english - techlish.- a winning project in environmental solutions: creating a light sensor to attract beetles to lay their eggs in the light, rather than in the crops.- 537 students participated in our robotics program, 55% are girls!- presenting our stem program at two education conferences- taught 115 teachers innovative education skills for their classrooms impacting 2,137 students.- winning the science fair in el carmen de viboral by creating a pottery wheel that functions with bicycle pedals.- expanded the program in nuqui to over 700 students. - having a finalist in the "she is an astronaut" international program.- working with universities and students to increase admissions to higher education. Our admission rate increased to 59%.- we currently have 18 fundaorth university scholars and have 29 university graduates.
