Program areas at Mario Pedrozzi Scholarship Foundation
To promote equity in opportunity for marylin avenue elementary school (title i, lvjusd school) high achieving students in pursuit of their educational goals beyond high school, the Foundation created the Pedrozzi young scholars program. Key elements of the program are enrichment, engagement, exposure and encouragement for the students and their families. The program is designed to help and encourage these students to succeed academically in their middle school and high school years, and to be better prepared for entering a college or vocational training program. Parent and family engagement is a key component of the program. Workshops to help parents understand and engage with the schools are presented throughout the year. The Foundation collaborates with other stakeholders to delivery impactful programs. In partnership with quest science center, program participants worked as interns, participated in community science programs. Students participated in a spring break art & science camp
The preliminary scholastic aptitude test (psat) is a standardized test that gives students early access to college and career planning tools and provides practice for the sat. Our initiative, in partnership with the livermore valley joint unified school district, allows all sophomores within the district to take the test free of charge during the school day. By taking the test as sophomores, students can begin planning and preparing early for life after high school. This test provides feedback, to both students and staff, on academic strengths and weaknesses as well as identifying opportunities for students to participate in honors and advanced placement (ap) courses, especially students who traditionally would not opt to enroll in those courses. The psat initiative has contributed to an increase number of underrepresented students enrolling in advanced classes.
The Foundation distributed Scholarship funds to 375 studentsattending 122 different colleges and schools. Of the studentsreceiving initial funding from the Foundation in 2023, 26% are thefirst in their families to attend college. Of the $423,651 inscholarships disbursed, $39,000 was for community college and technical vocational training, including tool scholarships for eligible apprentices enrolled in one of the five building trades apprenticeship programs at abc norcal. The Foundation works to help create a college- and career-boundculture for all livermore students. The Foundation values all post-secondary pursuits, which is why scholarships are awarded for traditional college-bound high school students as well as eligible students pursing career preparation through vocational training and apprenticeship programs. In addition to awarding scholarships, programming includes financial aid awareness, the psat initiative, and the Pedrozzi young scholars program. To carry out its mission,
