Description
Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center educates the general public and students of all ages about our natural environment and encourages better citizen participation in its protection and conservation through education and the arts. The center provides educational programs to the public and under-served youths, including 200 field trips from Miami-Dade County Schools, residents, and visitors plus eight weeks of summer camp. Approximately 12,000 guests participate in the programs. Additionally, the center provides support to aid in overall maintenance and improvement of Crandon Park.

Program areas at Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center

We offered environmental education/art and nature programs either free or for a minimal fee $8 - $15. to over 15,000 students. We also provided adult programming through Art exhibits and Historic Storytelling Biscayne Bay Sunset Boat tours. There were another 5000 residents and visitors served. We offered 60 students from ages 8 - 12 a free one-month scholarship to Summer by the Sea camp. This included bus transportation and lunch. We gave 55 local artists the opportunity to exhibit their individual original art works in our Gallery. We organized 8 Saturdays of Weeding Warriors, cleaning up and weeding Crandon Park. We participated in 10 outreach community events - making information known about our local environmental conditions and solutions. Hosted 10 Teacher Workshops to bring local teachers up to date and renew their teacher credits for their certification.
Provided summer camp to over 75 youth campers.
