Program areas at Martin Luther King JR Celebration Committee of Brazoria County
MLKCC awarded small grants to 22 nonprofit civic and church organizations to assist them with carrying out their community outreach programs and for awarding scholarships to graduating high school seniors.
To assist graduating high school students interested in furthering their education by attending a college or university MLKCC awarded 20 scholarships and paid tuition for students that applied for two special scholarships that pays full tuition to obtain a 2 year associate degree at out local community college.
For our economic outreach program a donation of 35,000 dollars was made to the Salvation Army to help complete the renovation of their facility for providing temporary shelter for homeless and dis-placed individuals and families. The total amount also included 4000 dollars towards the renovations to preserve a historical school and church building.
MLKCC Provided sponsorships for other nonprofit organizations for their fundraising events.
In recognition of National Senior Citizens Day our organization sponsored a Senior Citizen event that was open to the public. The event consisted of blood pressure health screening booths that provided information on wellness and exercises resources in the community for the aged information sessions on emergency management related to hurricanes and Scams that prey on the elderly. Lunch was provided along with games and door prizes.
MLKCC was a sponsor for Educational Foundations: Brazosport College Foundation and BISD Foundation
General Support to the community for its Juneteeth Celebration in Angleton and the Mims Community.
MLKCC sponsored the admission to the local museums in Freeport and Lake Jackson.
MLKCC sponsor a series of community events to commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr leading up to and on the holiday for Dr. King. These events that are free to the community include a musical community worship service parade and festival and a poster and essay contest for students.
MLKCC partnered with another organization in their STEM Dream Camp by providing books for over 70 students to read during the Dream Camp week.
