Program areas at Maryland Family Network
Strong families- mfn's Family support and early head start centers in local communities help children learn and help parents earn. The Network of 14 Family support and 19 early head start centers served over 1,650 children ages ranging from infant to three years old and supported over 1,450 parents and pregnant women in reaching their greatest potential through peer-to-peer learning opportunities and by finishing their education, acquiring job readiness skills, building social Network, and improving parenting skills.
A champion for their interests- with strong advocacy and public policy presence at the local, state, and federal levels, mfn leads thecharge for very young children and all those concerned with their well-being. After years of work, Maryland became the tenth state (plus the district of columbia) to establish paid Family and medical leave through the "time to care act of 2022; this will provide partial wage replacement for families taking time away from their jobs to care for loved ones. Another eight pieces of legislation that focused on the needs of young children, their families, and childcare providers also won passage in 2022.
Quality learning environments- mfn's child care resource Network centers support childcare professionals through training and building capacity for providing quality care. Child care resource centers conducted 1,390 training workshops, 2,180 hours of technical assistance, and 5,110 hours of professional development in the field of childcare to over 20,000 participants. Through telephone referral services and on-line searches, locate: child care helped families find care for over 2,200 children.
