Program areas at Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance

The Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance executes several facets of its program in pursuit of its mission, through which Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance seeks to educate, inform, and engage residents of Massachusetts on key civic and political issues relating to its mission of increasing Fiscal responsibility, transparency, and accountability in state government and increasing economic opportunity for the people of our commonwealth. The program mail pieces are designed to increase voter participation in elections, encourage people to run for office, increase participation in the ballot petition process, as well as to educate people on some of the positions taken by their elected officials on issues related to the organization's mission. Over the course of the year, the direct mail projects have delivered mail to thousands of residents of the commonwealth educating them on the civic process and encouraging greater civic engagement. Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance also regularly maintains, updates, and provides educational content for its own website (massfiscal.org), email list with thousands of subscribers, facebook page, twitter account, instagram account, youtube channel, and linkedin page. Content for these platforms is generally geared towards educating residents about the positions and actions of state legislators and government officials with concern to our mission of promoting responsibility, transparency, and accountability in state government and increasing economic opportunity for the people of our commonwealth. The maintenance, moderation, and content generation require significant commitments of time and effort from staff. This project also includes advertising expenditure aimed at furthering our reach to state residents on each platform. Over the past year, our digital media efforts have generated hundreds of thousands of unique impressions with residents of Massachusetts aimed at educating and engaging people with their state government, as well as increasing civic participation. In addition, Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance maintains a separate website for our legislative scorecard (massfiscalscorecard.org). The scorecard provides rankings of legislators based on their votes on issues pertinent to our mission of advocating for Fiscal responsibility, transparency, and accountability in state government and increasing economic opportunity for the people of Massachusetts. It does this in a neutral, unbiased manner and provides information on how constituents can best contact their state legislators. All backup information is made available and links to individual rollcall votes are provided in an easy to use, accessible manner. This scorecard is updated in real time by staff.
