Program areas at Mastodon Park Committee
Said corporation is organized exclusively for charitable, educational,
And scientific purposes, including, for such purposes, the making of
Distributions to organizations who qualify as exempt organizations
Under section 501, subparagraph c, subparagraph 3 of the internal
Revenue code of 1954 (or the corresponding provision of any future u.s
Internal revenue law), including the continuation of funding of
Efforts for the establishment, improvement, maintenance, and
Development of the "Mastodon Park" in jefferson county, Missouri.
Currently, the Mastodon state historic site is a Missouri state Park
And is controlled by the Missouri department of natural resources.
We provide funds for the annual Mastodon art & science regional fair,
As well as assistance in operating activities of the site, which help
Promote the stated goal of the corporation. The corporation was
Originally set up in 1975 to raise funds for the preservation of
Artifacts discovered which represent one of the largest finds in the
Country of ice age Mastodon bones. Once that was accomplished, this
Corporation has settled on using remaining funds for the maintenance
Of the site and for public education of the history of the site.
Originally the corporation was a public charity for the purpose of
Raising funds to develop the Park. Since then, the site has been
Taken over as part of the state Park system by the Missouri department
Of natural resources. This corporation is no longer involved in fund-
Raising; therefore, even though originally qualified as a public
Charity, we are now a private foundation. The Committee also
Volunteers with exhibits for children in the museum annex, purchases
Supplies for the Park not funded by the state, and volunteers for Park
Activities such as the archaeology dig.
