Program areas at Mathematics Foundation of America
Program #1 Accomplishments - Mathcamp MFOA's flagship program is Canada/USA Mathcamp, a five-week summer program for talented pre-collegiate students. During FY 2223, we held our 31st year of Mathcamp at Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont, with 121 students and 33 staff coming together to explore mathematical ideas and build community. From "Elliptic curves" to "Infinite Ramsey theory," from hiking the Green Mountains to homemade banana pizza, Mathcamp 2023 created intense mathematical and personal growth opportunities for all participants.Program #2 Accomplishments - Mathcamp Consortium MFOA's second program, officially launched this year, is the Summer Mathematics Programs Consortium. It brings together the leadership of intensive summer math programs in a community to further their work through collaboration. The Consortium aims to promote and increase math enrichment opportunities nationwide for grades 612 students. During FY 2223, we created our first website (summermathprograms.org), planned and ran our first annual conference with a lively group of 58 participants representing 25 programs, and laid the groundwork for eight committees to begin carrying out the work outlined during the conference throughout the coming year.Program #3 Accomplishments - Mathcamp Alumni MFOA continues to provide programming and support for Mathcamp alumni long after the summer ends: from recommendation letters to reunions, we stay engaged with our students throughout their career trajectories. During FY 2223, we ran our third Mathcamp All-Alumni Online Reunion, with 109 alums participating in a dozen networking, learning, and fun events. We also hosted our annual reception at the Joint Mathematics Meetings, an opportunity to connect with alumni from all generations of Mathcamp pursuing mathematical research.
