Program areas at Mattachine Society of Washington DC
Project CURED, a collaborative effort to produce a film for public TV about the American Psychiatric Assoc's historic 1973 decision to remove homosexuality from its manual of mental illness. The target audience is a broad spectrum of people interested in history, science, medicine, and LGBTQ equality.
Education Program, the organization has collected thousands of pages of original documents that provide the evidentiary history of brutal government animus toward LGBT Americans. This year, our education program has focused on several areas: 1)our documents that played a prominent role in "The Deviant's War" by Eric Cervini, 2)our documents and information related to conversion therapy, the practice of trying to change a person's sexual orientation or gender identity through psychological, spiritual, or religious means, and 3)numerous articles, essays, and interviews throughout the year by and about thought leaders. The goal of our education programs - to educate families, communities, the press, and legislators.
Acknowledgement & Apology Project, enumeration of the evidentiary history that requires a reckoning by the US Gov for its mistreatment of LGBT Americans for the "federal assault" that destroyed the lives of tens of thousands of federal workers and military personnel over seven decades.
