Program areas at Maurice Lucas Foundation
The Maurice Lucas Foundation's academy program admits and serves students attending title 1 middle schools in the portland metropolitan area and stays with them during the crucial transition to high school and then to four-year college, community college, vocational school, apprenticeship, military service or directly into the workforce. Guiding principles of seven pillars goal setting, integrity, leadership, respect, hard work, personal responsibility, and positivity form the Foundation of their programs. Their middle school through high school and post-high programs are built on academics, character development, physical activity and community. They believe that lack of financial ability should not be a barrier to advancing and fulfilling any student's educational and career goals. As needs are increasing, the Foundation is also focusing efforts on the family financial assistance program. This program helps support families by providing help with utility bills, groceries, bus passes, and more.
The Foundation's scholarship program focuses on helping students find funding for their post high school journey. Students who participate in the academy program for its entirety and meet the scholarship criteria will receive scholarships to attend the college, university, or accredited vocational school of their choice.
The Foundation's ml20 enforcers program is an elite basketball team that competes in tournaments and helps expand each participant's core values of integrity, hard work, goal setting, positivity, personal responsibility, respect and leadership.
