Program areas at Maverick City Music Initiative
In 2021, mcmi hosted 4 writing camps for youth in communities affected by mass incarceration providing an immersive experience with Music industry professionals as well as motivational and christian speakers. Over 60 students were given the opportunity, tools and resources to write lyrics, produce Music and record Music. During the writing camps youth were empowered to be positive role models and apply life mottos that will help them stay out of trouble and succeed. The camps were free to participants and all inclusive with lodging, food and program materials.
In 2021, mcmi also hosted 2 writing camps inside detention facilities for inmates. Inmates were given the opportunity to write and record with Maverick City Music artists and have their talents and voices given an unheard of platform. Over 100 inmates participated in these writing camps hosted at 2 different prisons.
In 2021, mcmi assisted with the funeral expenses of an inmate's deceased parent.
