Program areas at Martin de Porres House of Hospitality
The MDP Foundation provides substantial financial support to the Martin de Porres House Of Hospitality, which operates a kitchen to feed the homeless in san francisco. The Foundation's board Of director also provides overall direction to the management Of the kitchen. Ln 1995 program services were expanded to include the provision Of optometry services and glasses, internment services, the payment for temporary housing, along with dental care, travel services and the provision Of hygienic supplies for the unhoused. All Of these services continued. (see schedule o for further narrative)
Charitable contributions begun in 1999 and in keeping with its philosophy Of charity, love and peace, the MDP Foundation continued to make contributions Of excess unrestricted capital to non-profit organizations and individuals, many Of which provide additional support services to the disenfranchised. MDP Foundation donated 45,444 for the year ended december 31, 2023.
David House ln march 1995, Martin de Porres Foundation purchased a residential housing building at 1311 Alabama street, san francisco, California named david House, the facility operates to provide short and long-term dignified housing to individuals who would otherwise find themselves unhoused. Lt is staffed by volunteers and provides housing for seven to ten individuals at any given time. Ln 1996 david House also began to provide hospice care on a limited basis and improvements were begun to make the facility handicapped accessible.
Continued narrative for psa 1 in 2019 MDP Foundation became the fiscal agent for the burrito project which provided burritos that were delivered through san francisco to people living with housing and food insecurity. Ln addition to handing out food to individuals, our program reached two navigation centers, larkin street youth services locations and the homeless youth alliance locations. The covid 19 pandemic directly affected the organization and its ability to reach a population at risk with for food insecurity; however, MDP continued to provide "take out" meals and other services to the unhoused and disenfranchised. As covid restrictions were eased, midp began to transition back into a communal eating hospital House in 2022.
