Meals on Wheels of Asheville and Buncombe County

Meals on Wheels of Asheville and Buncombe County (MOWABC) operates Monday through Friday with a Board of Directors, 15-member staff and a network of over 300 volunteers. Meal delivery is available each weekday to Buncombe County seniors age 60 and older who are homebound, without regard to race, religion, national origin, sex, handicap, or ability to pay. MOWABC received additional federal funding through ARPA to address the increased needs of the seniors in our community. Based on this additional funding, MOWABC received 25% of its funding through local, county, and state agencies. Approximately 75% of our support came through private donations from individuals, businesses, faith-based groups, and foundations, as well as annual fundraising events and program income.

In FY 2022/2023 MOWABC served 123,621 meals to 932 senior clients throughout Buncombe County. In addition to the meals provided to our homebound seniors, we partnered with other agencies to provide nutritious meals. These partners include an Adult Day Program, Healthy Opportunities Pilot Program through MANNA FoodBank, and another nonprofit agency that also serves homebound seniors. In total, MOWABC provided 131,714 meals during the fiscal year.
