Program areas at Meals on Wheels of Asheville and Buncombe County
Meals on Wheels of Asheville and Buncombe County (MOWABC) operates Monday through Friday with a Board of Directors, 18-member staff and a network of over 300 volunteers. Meal delivery is available each weekday to Buncombe County seniors age 60 and older who are homebound, without regard to race, religion, national origin, sex, handicap, or ability to pay. MOWABC received 25% of its funding through local, county, and state agencies. Approximately 75% of our support came through private donations from individuals, busniesses, faith based groups, and foundations, as well as annual fundraising events and program income.
In FY 2023/2024 MOWABC served 137,499 meals to 1,100 senior clients throughout Buncombe County. In addition to the meals provided to our homebound seniors, we partnered with other agencies to provide nutritious meals. These partners include Healthy Opportunities Pilot Program through MANNA FoodBank, and another nonprofit agency that also serves homebound seniors. In total, MOWABC provided 142,318 meals during the fiscal year.
