In 2022, it completed final renovations at its facility, which now welcomes three people at a time for 2-week writing residencies. Over the course of the year, it hosted 36 writers, artists and activists and awarded fellowships to 26 of them. Additionally, it partnered with their local radio station.

Program areas at Mesa Refuge A Nonprofit Corporation

In 2023, Mesa Refuge had a full schedule of one and two-week writing residencies, each of which served 3 people at a time. We hosted 43 writers and activists in our spring and fall residency programs, 24 of whom were awarded fellowships. We partnered with our local radio station, KWMR, to produce biweekly author interviews with each resident. We hosted 11 DIY Retreats, serving 8 prior Mesa Refuge residents and 21 other writers working on projects related to our areas of focus (the environment, economic equity, and social justice). We also hosted 9 Alum Weeks, which provided time and space to 27 previous Mesa Refuge residents. We offered, in collaboration with local organizations, 6 in-person author events featuring Mesa Refuge alumni.
