Program areas at The Methodist Home for Children

Juvenile Home Services - Methodist Home for Children, Inc. ("MHC") operates five multi-purpose juvenile homes providing services to youth involved in the juvenile justice system who are diverted to these homes to participate in a therapeutic environment focused on making positive behavioral changes. MHC operates three transitional living homes with a focus on helping the youth who are on juvenile probation learn independent living and vocational skills. MHC also operates four juvenile crisis and assessment centers providing crisis intervention, assessment and service planning for youth who require temporary out-of-home placement to stabilize their behaviors and provide an opportunity to determine effective interventions. MHC served a total of 421 youth in these homes and assessment centers.
Early Childhood Services - MHC operates two five-star early child care centers providing services for typically and atypically developing children in an inclusive classroom. 27% of the enrolled children received financial assistance. 14% of the enrolled children receive therapeutic support including speech, occupational or physical therapy, special education, or developmental therapy. 100% of kindergarteners achieved readiness goals through a standardized assessment. MHC served a total of 225 children in this program.
Foster Care & Adoptions - MHC provides foster care services for youth who are experiencing trauma due to issues involving abuse, neglect, and/or potential homelessness or mental health needs. Specific services include traditional foster care, therapeutic foster care (children with specific and chronic mental health diagnoses), kinship care (children who can be placed with a family member), rapid response crisis stabilization (children in crisis who need emergency short-term care), juvenile justice foster care (runaways, gang-affiliated teens, or other court-involved youth), and adoptions (foster children who are unable to reunite with their biological families). MHC served a total of 80 children and youth in these programs, including 6 adoptions.
Mental Health Services - MHC provides mental health services (FACT specialized services) for youth who are dually diagnosed with mental illness/severe emotional disorders (including anxiety disorders, autism spectrum disorders, major depressive disorders, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorders) and underlying developmental disabilities. Services include outpatient services, residential homes and day treatment. MHC served a total of 15 youth in this program.
Family Preservation - MHC employs specialists to the home or community to assist families with increasing their overall functioning. These services address families with drug abuse issues, bringing children back home from out-of-home placements or keeping families together. Services include vocational training, transition and re-entry for youth completing residential court placement at a youth detention center, family preservation and intensive family preservation, alternatives to commitment, family reunification, and comprehensive clinical assessments. MHC served 580 children and families in these programs.
Consultation & Program Development - MHC provides comprehensive training and consultation services that can aid outside agencies in their efforts to improve their services and work toward accreditation. Accreditation-related consultation and training services is an 18-36 month process. MHC provided consultation and program development services to 4 outside agencies (81 people trained, 580 youth and families supported).
Scholarships - The Hackley Education and Learning Program (HELP) provides support for the higher education goals of students from our multi-purpose juvenile homes, transitional living homes and foster care homes. 14 students received mentoring and financial assistance to attend higher education institutions.
