Program areas at Methodist Medical Center Foundation
The Hospitality Houses of Methodist Medical Center provide temporary lodging for patients and families who must travel long distances for treatment at Methodist Medical Center or Thompson Cancer Survival Center at MMC. The three homes offer 12 fully furnished apartments; shared kitchen, dining, laundry and family rooms; stocked pantries; transportation assistance as needed; and free parking. The program is supported entirely by charitable contributions.Guests of the Hospitality Houses stay as long as they need, free of charge. Since the first house opened in 1997, thousands of guests have received lodging. In 2023, the houses served 159 guests and provided 1,653 nights of stay for patients and families receiving cancer treatment, ICU/CCU care, and wound care at MMC. Based on standard local hotel rates, the value of the free lodging received by these guests was $198,360.
The foundation provided support for oncology rehabilitation certification through the Physiological Oncology Rehabilitation Institute (PORI) for a physical therapist at MMC.
MMC Foundation funded continuing education equipment, clinical training and advanced certifications at Methodist Medical Center, including a training manikin for CPR and crisis care nursing education, head and neck lymphedema certification for an occupational therapist, and advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS) training for pharmacists.
Other program services include funding for the family birthing center and the chaplain's benevolence fund.
