Program areas at Miami County Continuum of Care
Established in 1990 and granted tax exemption status in 2015, the Miami County Continuum of Care works to implement a coordinated, community-wide response to homelessness in Miami County, Ohio. Lead by a board of directors, who represent diverse community agencies, local government, faith-based programs, etc., members of this collaborative group work together to identify needs, share resources, and deliver housing and support services to homeless individuals and families and those at-risk of becoming homeless. Ongoing, regular collaborative meetings are held to strengthen interagency collaborations and to improve access to services for anyone in need. Training is provided to ensure social service providers and community members are aware of the services available to assist individuals and families in Miami County, Ohio and how to access them. Throughout the year, emphasis is placed on addressing the needs of vulnerable populations, including those dealing with higher service needs and/or those who facing additional barriers towards breaking free from homelessness, including senior citizens, veterans, victims of domestic violence and individuals with disabilities. Efforts are made to provide wrap-around services for higher need populations and to ensure that they receive access to individualized support. Annually, a point in time count (pit) is completed by the Miami County Continuum of Care to document the number of homeless individuals in the County, to identify emerging trends, and to report data to local, state and federal funders.
