Program areas at Miami Homes for All
Founded in 1985, Miami Homes For All's mission is that everyone in Miami-Dade has a safe, affordable place to call home. Our overarching objective is to change the systems that affect the entire affordable housing ecosystem. Our goals are to Research policies and best practices that increase affordable housing development and resident access to it; Engage stakeholders in dialogue to influence systemic change; Build coalitions around meaningful action; Pilot innovative solutions; and Advocate for public policy. MHFA has a track record of continuously achieving these goals. Recent highlights include: Published Miami-Dade Affordable Housing Framework in 2020, formally accepted by the Miami-Dade County Commission in 2022. Serves as backbone to the Greater Miami Housing Alliance (founded in 2020), a 100-member coalition dedicated to implementing the priority recommendations in the Framework. Successfully advocated with the Greater Miami Housing Alliance to double the county budget for affordable housing, totaling $85 million dollars, including a 3x increase for very low- and extremely low-income housing. Advocated for youth-dedicated beds in homeless shelters, increasing the number of beds from 200 in 2019 to 1200 in 2022. Pushed for extension of eviction notice period from 15 to 60 days. Influenced plans for a 19-acre parcel to include affordable housing. Partnered with the County in the equitable distribution of $100 M in rental assistance. Initiated a pilot pipeline of small multifamily affordable housing deals. We are providing technical assistance and funds to Black and Hispanic developers and property owners with $4M in support from JPMorgan Chase.
