Program areas at Mid-Atlantic Mothers' Milk Bank
During 2023, Three Rivers Mothers' Milk Bank distributed over 370,000 ounces of pasteurized donor human Milk to neonatal intensive care units, mother baby units, birth centers, and outpatients. The primary recipients were neonatal intensive care units in Pennsylvania, west Virginia, new jersey, and Maryland. Approximately 20% of the volume was used by medically fragile outpatients. The Milk Bank is accredited by and strictly follows the guidelines of the human Milk banking association of north america (hmbana). In addition to the primary mission of providing pasteurized donor human Milk, the organization strives to improve health outcomes through support to help Mothers achieve breastfeeding success. Programming to support families who have experienced infant loss is also provided. In 2023, 455 Mothers donated Milk to the organization and several of those Mothers were bereaved.
