Program areas at Midsummer's Music
Midsummer's Music is an all year round performing arts organization. We have a summer season in door county and a fall/winter/spring quartet residency serving northeastern Wisconsin. In 2023 we performed 42 summer concerts and offered more than 100 string quartet residency outreach events. We continued our composer in residence program and commissioned our tenth piece since the establishment of the program. Also, there was a continued recognition of legacy society members (people naming us in their will) to increase legacy membership. Our Music for food chapter in door county was also part of accomplishments where all proceeds from the concert benefit a local food bank to end hunger in our communities. Donations are given via food or money which goes to the local food pantry.
The griffon string quartet residency reached hundreds of disabled seniors and over 1,000 school age children and their families through in person and virtual performances, school visits, and educational lessons. Rural communities in northeast Wisconsin are also reached through performances by this group. A digital release of the members of the griffon string quartet and singer/songwriter eric lewis happened in 2023. Monies raised from the selling of this release are placed back into the group to perform more outreach.
