Mil Milagros equips women and teachers with skills and resources to improve the lives of children and families in rural Guatemala. The organization taught more than 150 mothers about early childhood development, nutrition, health/hygiene, and parenting through in-person classes and videos broadcast on local cable stations, while serving nearly 200 children.

Program areas at Mil Milagros

1.early childhood development program - Mil Milagros taught more than 100 mothers about early childhood development, nutrition, health/hygiene, parenting, women's health, and entrepreneurship in in-person classes and videos broadcast on local cable stations, and served more than 100 children from birth through age three. Program activities led to a 13% reduction in severe chronic malnutrition among participating children 0 to 3 years old. 2.education program - in 2023, Mil Milagros expanded access to its advanced literacy techniques course to all interested teachers in 31 communities, and provided supplies, books, and teaching support to all teachers. We expanded our traveling library program to ensure children and teachers had access to a variety of culturally appropriate storybooks. At year-end, 61% of students were reading on grade level compared to 22% of students in their region (solol). 3.health and hygiene program - in 2023, Mil Milagros provided toothbrushes, toothpaste, hand soap, disinfectant, toilet paper, and masks to all 14 partner schools for the entire school year. Staff trained mother leaders to comply with and monitor the government-mandated hygiene protocols and mother and student leaders led public health campaigns in their schools. A county-wide campaign was held at city hall as well to promote healthy eating and drinking purified water. 100% of children had access to hygiene supplies and water filters at school.
