Millcreek Foundation's purpose is conservation of open space. We
Own 37.5 acres of land in an urban environment and lease 20 of
Those acres for pasturage and hay production to keep the fields
From being overcome by weeds and invasive plants. We also improve
The land and manage the remaining acurage (woodland) in accordance
With a forestry management plan which is done by the state of Delaware.
Brandywine conservancy holds a conservation easement on the property
And conducts an annual inspection to ensure that we conform
To the terms of the easement but does not otherwise participate in management.
All of our labor is volunteer and we get community help with hay
Production and equipment maintenance.
We do a large hayride (300 people) for the local club pack 29.
All of these activities give us the opportunity to teach about
Farming, natural area conservation and where food comes from.
Millcreek Foundation is one of a small and diminishing number
Of working farms in new castle county, Delaware. Mbl
