Minnesota Fringe connects adventurous audiences with adventurous artists by creating open, supportive forums for free and diverse artistic expression. Fringe does not judge, jury or censor the work of any artist - we provide a platform for performance, and we leave it up to the audience to evaluate the results.

Program areas at Minnesota Fringe Festival

The 2023 Fringe Festival took place in 15 theaters and included an online supplement called the Fringe hangover. The 30th annual event featured 101 shows with 525 performances, filling roughly 22,000 seats, and paying artists over $138,000. More than 35% artists participated in the Fringe hangover with 37 shows garnering over 250 views from more than 500 additional audience members. Audio description, asl interpretation, closed captioning services were provided both in person and online at no additional cost in order to ensure audiences with disabilities could fully participate.
Beyond the box is an artist incubation opportunity in public, outdoor performance. Individual practitioners, burgeoning ensembles and established companies join an equitable cohort of 3 artists/companies working together to learn how to engage in public, outdoor performances in a fluid peer-to-peer mode while collaborating with organizers. Modular short performances take place june-august at xcel energy plaza on nicollet avenue and are designed to engage the diverse audiences of downtown minneapolis and celebrate the reanimation, renewal, and changing relationship to public spaces.
