Program areas at Minnesota Interfaith Power and Light
Movement builders: provided leadership development and coaching for 24 faith based and geographic networks, engaging them in taking action on climate justice. Hosted 50 events at Congregations to engage people in work around climate. Hosted 4 webinars about the importance of reparations and tangible recommendations for action 209 people were enrolled and the recordings were viewed more than 775 times. Hosted two reparations learning labs with 136 people enrolled.
Youth n Power: hosted 9 college interns and 6 apprentices to open the door to a new generation of climate leaders. Participated in multiple international coalitions and strategic alignments locally and globally. Young people participated in rallies and met with legislative leaders. Supported youth of color to lead the international organizing effort to pressure the united states to take action towards recognition and responsibility of the economic loss and damage caused by climate change.
Policy & advocacy: engaged over 150 people in meeting with federal and state legislators. Mobilized 100 community leaders and a broader base of over 8,000 people across Minnesota to engage with public decision makers around a climate justice agenda. Organized and co-hosted the rise & repair rally day with more than 150 attendees, many of whom had meetings with their legislators. Led the legislative work to create Minnesota climate innovation finance authority and secure $45m in funding to support minnesotans in their transition to sustainable energy, with a focus on communities of color and indigenous and low-income communities.
Energy efficiency & solar: provided coaching for households and Congregations by engaging over 8,000 people in outreach and education. Provided over 100 Congregations and over 1,000 individuals with opportunities to access solar energy and energy efficiency through providers that promote equity and access. Hosted 10 information sessions on accessing rooftop solar and energy efficient upgrades through the inflation reduction act. Worked with solar united neighbors to put rooftop solar on 9 homes in Minnesota and worked with cooperative energy futures to help minneapolis residents sign up for community solar gardens.
