Description
Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop educates inmates in Minnesota state prisons with creative writing courses and other art services. The organization taught 24 full 10-15 week long courses, along with shorter courses by guest teachers in eight state correctional facilities during 2022. Some classes were remote due to pandemic restrictions. Moreover, MPWW hosted numerous public events where incarcerated individuals' writings were showcased and spread widely, both virtually and in person, attracting over 1,000 attendees.

Program areas at Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop

Taught creative writing courses in 8 Minnesota state correctional facilities. 29 full 10-15 week long courses taught in 2023 plus guest teachers and shorter courses. Estimated 600 students taught in 2023.
Produced and published the art of incarcerated Minnesotans most notably by supporting American Precariat an anthology edited entirely by incarcerated people which was published by Coffee House Press in 2023.
Supported writers' transition from prison to community through both material and immaterial means networking consultations etc.
