Program areas at Mission 14
In 2023, Mission 14 continued to focus on attracting a global audience to drive action in the fight against human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of children. We worked alongside brave nonprofits who have established best practices to help combat human trafficking, and the variety of arenas causing and affecting the trafficking system, both here in the united states and other regions around the globe.sewing center in our first full year of offering the sewing machine mechanics course we saw a huge interest and successfully completed six 3-month long courses in 2023. The local demand for mechanics is great as factories are starting to see a resurgence of business post-pandemic and our students are getting jobs quickly after graduation.the Mission 14 sewing school completed ten 5-week sewing courses with 20 students in each course. As nicaragua's apparel manufacturing sector rebounds from the covid pandemic, there are more jobs available to our graduates. We are averaging 75% placement rate following graduation. The sewing school is an accredited inatec facility, the local government body that oversees specific courses that promote skill-based training and employment. This has also given the Mission 14 program a higher standing within the apparel manufacturing sector as one of the few training centers.human trafficking seminarson the local front, Mission 14 once again partnered with the Maryland human trafficking investigators seminar and the Maryland human trafficking professionals conference. Both conferences saw an increase in attendance from the previous year. Mission 14, in partnership with the baltimore city mayor's office of criminal justice and the united states attorney's office, in march Mission 14 offered its seventh annual four-day human trafficking training for law enforcement in ocean city, Maryland. This conference draws law enforcement officers from many states across the u.s. and canada.we also partnered again with the baltimore city mayor's office of criminal justice and the united states attorney's office for our fifth annual 3-day human trafficking professionals seminar (victim service providers, social workers). This conference program is designed to address the needs of professionals working in human trafficking.
