Program areas at Mission Africa
Healthcare: Provided free medical outreach in rural Nigeria villages. Organized mobile clinics for teaching basic hygiene, proper nutrition and diseases prevention, including HIV/AIDS awareness.
Smiles At Christmas: Organized around the Christmas holidays and benefited low-income families in communities around King County, including Seattle, Renton, Kent, Auburn and Federal Way. Parents and guardians brought their children to the events, and each child was given donated items such as warm coat, games, toys and clothing. Children were entertained with party jumpers, face painting, craft making, cotton candy, popcorn, etc., while their parents and guardians did their holiday shopping. The presents were pre-packaged so that parents took them home without their children knowing the content. Mission Africa has organized this event annually since 2006.
High School Diploma Program: Since 2008 the Mission Africa has awarded a six-year financial scholarship to 50 underprivileged high school students in the villages of Nigeria. The scholarship covers the full year cost of tuition, two school uniforms, school supplies and a backpack. The scholarship winners receive these benefits for 6 consecutive years until they graduate. Once they graduate a new 50-student scholarship cohort will be selected to receive scholarships. Books for Africa: Since 2010, Mission Africa has donated approximately four million books to countries in Africa. In most African countries, schools must have approved libraries to be accredited for their national high school diploma exams. Mission Africa accepts donations of books from school districts, libraries, organizations and individuals for students in Africa who have no books. These books are picked up by Mission Africa volunteers, sorted by subjects, inventoried, packed and shipped in 40 feet container loads to Africa. The books are then donated to village schools and libraries.
Poverty Alleviation. Organized and support programs to alleviate poverty in Nigeria, including a farming project teaching rural farmers modern more effective methods and a Micro loan program providing seed money to small businesses to sustain self-employment. Partnered with local communities to deliver food aid and menstrual hygiene supplies to women and girls.
Global Program: Mission Africa provides technical assistance and custodial support for other individuals and NGOs serving in various African countries
Digital Navigation. Mission Africa received a grant to organize a program teaching technology basics and providing resources to underserved individuals and families in our local communities. MA also organized camps for children during the summer.
