Program areas at Mission Gait
Mission Gait academy - education, our hallmark program, includes training, research and our groundbreaking Gait rehabilitation specialist certification program. We provide in-person and virtual professional education courses and support the curriculum at universities nationally and globally. Our database of providers connects patients with certified professionals in their region. We have created over 344 educational videos on techniques and skills for working with the complex Gait community, which are provided on youtube at no cost. These videos have received over 3.6 million views, with over 25,000 subscribers from more than 179 countries. Our training is provided in-person to professionals and patients alike, and offered across numerous topics. We have completed a number of research projects and are currently supporting multiple projects with several universities.
Patient reintegration program - we are resetting the limits placed on those who are experiencing the loss of freedom of movement due to complex Gait conditions, "to move again with confidence. "we believe that a person's abilities always outweigh their disabilities. Our reintegration program works with patients who are setting goals to enhance their lives, and we are by their side to accomplish these goals. Our "discover your possible" event was developed to encourage amputees, their caregivers, and professional volunteers to reach their full potential. Mission Gait will partner with the community that supports and provides services to this population. We encourage and provide support information to help other groups launch similar empowerment programs, wherever there is interest.
Walking free program - our international prosthetic, orthotic, and rehabilitation initiative brings capacity to underserved countries, currently with 10 sustainable centers in 7 countries. Our latest project: solomon islands, south pacific. Signed mou with the ministry of health and medical services to bring state-of-the-art prosthetic care to amputees living in the country. We built a p & o lab inside a 40-foot shipping container, which was shipped to the solomon islands ready to use with access to a full complement of educational materials. Two Mission trips have provided on-site training, proving this to be sustainable and replicable. A future in-country developmental, multi-disciplinary education symposium for all south pacific regional healthcare providers is being planned. (founded in 2000 as part of 'physicians for peace,' Mission Gait took over walking free in 2016.)
