Mississippi Council on Economic Education promotes economic literacy within the state and provides quality economic education programs for public and private schools, teachers, and students in Mississippi from kindergarten through grade twelve. The organization offers a master teacher of economics professional development program in partnership with the Mississippi Superintendent of Education, which has enabled 851 teachers to effectively teach microeconomics and macroeconomics.

Program areas at Mississippi Council on Economic Education

The original master teacher of economics professional development program was provided in partnership with the mississiippi superintendent of Education to enable teachers to learn how to effectively teach microeconomics and macroeconomics. Since that time, we have added master teacher programs in personal finance, entrepreneurship, college and career readiness and career readiness. 1,964 teachers have completed these program and are proving that it is a tremendous investment with a significant return to the human capital of our state.students are required to take one semester of economics and one year of college and career readiness (personal finance) in order to graduate from high school. Teachers who participated in these programs earned a certificate from the ms department of Education. on average, teachers that complete a master teacher program show an increase in knowledge as measured by testing and assignments. Over 20,000 teachers have been trained in these and other professional development workshops and webinars and have reached approximately 2,000,000 students over the years via classroom instruction and student programs offered by mcee.
