The Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency (mora) worked to generate awareness and increase donor authorizations in Mississippi's donor registry through the ms department of public safety, ms department of wildlife, fisheries and parks, and registerme.org. In 2023, 89,953 new registered donors joined the donor registry.in 2023, mora utilized staff, resources, and the person power of 361 volunteers who put in 145 hours to promote Organ, eye, and tissue donation awareness throughout mora's designated service region.in 2023, mora's public education emphasis included: donation awareness to the general public through but not limited to educational facilities, advertising, community events, speaking engagements, promotional events, recognition ceremonies, and outreach through the faith communities.2023 media and specialty advertising promoting donation awareness and encouraging registrations at www.msora.org & www.registerme.org: - mora monthly newsletter emailed to registered donors, hospital staff, medical professionals, donation advocates, and the general public. - integrated use of social and mobile media marketing including facebook, twitter, instagram, and youtube to promote donor awareness events and encourage donor registrations. - a major campaign across multiple avenues of media targeting awareness in the african american community in central ms. - press releases and public service donation awareness information sent to media in the state. - registerme.org donor registry information promoted via statewide media outlets. - paid radio, television, online, and print advertising combined with in-kind advertising. - since the implementation of the Organ, eye, and tissue question being added to the online Mississippi hunting & fishing license application, 12,909 new registrants said "yes" to donation. - mora participated in multiple events throughout the year to give back to our local communities. Some of the events included a red beans and rice cook-off, a chili cook-off in flowood, a toy drive for the kids at batson, and serving at stewpot.2023 education and events promoting donation awareness and encouraging registration in registerme.org: - donor awareness and donor registry materials distributed at health fairs, schools, conferences, community, and workplace partnership events. - donor education curriculum taught in health science, science, and driver's ed classes within the mora service area. During the 2022-2023 school year, 6132 students were reached in 74 school visits. Another 8,000+ were reached at events geared toward career opportunities. - continued donor awareness initiatives targeting dps leadership and staff at dps locations. One donate life ms state team meeting with mid-south transplant foundation & Mississippi dps.national donate life month (ndlm) activities during april 2023: - donate life flag-raising ceremonies at hospitals in recognition of special dates and in honor of life-saving Organ and tissue donations. - the biloxi lighthouse was lit up for blue & green day. - participated in the south jackson neighborhood association parade and health fair. - racing for donation 8k & 5k race.major events hosted by mora: - hero 100 bike ride was held on march 4, 2023, to raise awareness on the ms coast for Organ, eye, and tissue donation. - the 10th annual spero awards program was held to recognize hospital partners, medical personnel, donor advocates, and corporate partners that help to promote the need for Organ, eye, and tissue donation. - 2023 donor family recognition ceremonies in hattiesburg, biloxi, flowood, and tupelo that featured handmade ornaments and photos honoring their loved ones. - man up and donate (mud) is an event held in june that focused on men's health and the need for men, specifically african-american males, to register to be donors. - during the calendar year of 2023, mora staff completed approximately 1500 hours working on fundraising events that included the hero 100 bike ride and racing for donation 8k/5k. These hours included, but were not limited to creating marketing materials, meetings with community stakeholders and potential sponsors, event planning, volunteer outreach, working the events, and event debriefing.
