Program areas at Mississippi Physician Health Program
The Mississippi Physician Health Program is Mississippi's impaired physicians Program and is one of the nation's premier organizations that promote research, education, prevention, early identification, intervention, treatment and rehabilitation of doctors who may be impaired or at risk of impairment because of substance use, psychiatric illness or other potentially impairing conditions. We will identify, intervene upon, treat and rehabilitate physicians with compassion, dignity, and respect. We will educate the public and the healthcare profession of our state about substance use disorders. We will expand the body of basic knowledge about substance use disorders through research. We will actively seek methods to prevent substance use disorders. We will pursue adequate funding and resources to enable us to complete this mission.
Mphp provides education to healthcare providers across the state through a series of prescriber's summits in north, central and south ms. The prescriber's summits provide 5 hours of continuing medical education on prescribing as required by the Mississippi state board of medical licensure.
Each year, the mphp holds an annual caduceus club retreat for mphp participants. The purpose of the retreat is to support those in recovery through support by their peers from around the state and to provide continuing medical education in topics relevant to physicians with potentially impairing conditions.
