Program areas at MACA
SkillUp: SkillUp is a program that provides Food Stamp and TANF recipients opportunities to gain skills, training or experience that will improve their ability to attain employment and decrease their dependency on public assistance programs. The intention of the program is rapid attachment to work that leads to self-sufficiency for families. The program offers job search, training, education and supportive services to participants. MCAN provides T/TA to sub-contractors, as well as program monitoring. SkillUp is a voluntary program for all food stamp and TANF recipients.
Poverty Simulations: Community Action Poverty Simulation (CAPS) promotes a greater understanding of poverty. During the simulation, participants role-play the lives low-income families from single parents trying to care for their children to senior citizens trying to maintain their self-sufficiency on Social Security.
Annual Conference: The Annual Conference is Missouri CAN's hallmark training event for staff at local Community Action Agencies. The Conference is a multi-day training event that brings together staff from Missouri's Community Action Agencies, experts from across the country, and notable speakers from the Community Action Network.
