Program areas at Missouri Association of Elementary School Principals
Professional Development: The annual MAESP Leadership Conference attracted more than five hundred attendees and offered more than fifty concurrent professional development sessions as well as three general sessions with expert presenters in the areas of leadership, relationships, and instruction. MAESP co-hosted a two-day workshop for new principals with MoASSP, a one day workshop for new teachers, and three one-day workshops for aspiring school leaders, a one and day Women in Leadership Retreat, and a one day workshop for early childhood/pre-Kindergarten administrators. Also, MAESP member principals provided input on professional committees and task forces which worked for the benefit of children of MO and contributed to increased student achievement.MAESP continued to offer a multiple day conference for school secretaries and support staff from schools and school districts. The Educational Office Professionals Conference supported 158 attendees from across the state. Legal updates, inspirational speakers and practitioner sessions filled the one and day conference.Executive Director Dr. J Anderson continues to serve on the advisory board for the Missouri Leadership Development System (MLDS). The MLDS provides ongoing professional development and support for Missouri principals for the initial years of their career. MAESP and MOASSP organized an Executive Coaching Program that launched in 2023-2024.
Leadership: As Executive Director, Dr. J Anderson continued to visit the MAESP regional networks and shared information on legislative activities of the Education Roundtable, and updates on other initiatives from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. He also attended State Board of Education meetings and shared emerging developments and actions of the Board with MAESP members and non-members.
Advocacy: MAESP shares lobbyists with other organizations in the School Administrators Coalition (SAC). MAESP leaders informed our legislative agenda and through the MCSA lobbyists provided valuable information to legislators regarding educational positions. MAESP leaders also visited federal legislators in Washington, DC to share a Missouri perspective on current education law and pending education legislation. MAESP continues to work closely with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education on issues important to principals and schools.
