Program areas at Model Alliance

Through our secure support line, the Model Alliance assisted 365 people who work or aspire to work in the fashion industry with a range of concerns, including wage theft, sexual abuse, and visa issues. Where appropriate, we connected individuals with trusted journalists to help tell their stories and made referrals to attorneys to help explore their legal options.we ran an awareness campaign for the adult survivors act, which gave time-barred survivors of sexual abuse a one year window to pursue justice in new york. The campaign, which included a psa video featuring survivors in our community, was seen by over 700,000 people, and over 3,000 cases were filed. At nine events, from a press conference in albany to a panel at the french consulate, we educated our community and the general public about our efforts to create a more accountable fashion industry. Our work was featured in leading media publications, such as the new york times, variety, and forbes. We participated in the bbc's documentary, the abercrombie guys: the dark side of cool, to help expose abusive practices at abercrombie & fitch.we campaigned for the fashion workers act, our signature bill that would create basic labor rights for the thousands of models working in new york's fashion industry and protect countless others who aspire to work in the business. We developed leadership in members of our community by providing opportunities for our worker council to engage in public speaking, pen essays and op-eds, undergo media training, organize their peers for a rally or event, and more. As a result of our advocacy, the new york state senate voted to pass the fashion workers act 46-16 with bipartisan support.
