Program areas at Modo for the People
In 2023, Modo for the People made significant strides in fulfilling its mission to provide essential medical care to maui's underserved communities. We are proud to have served 1,168 maui residents, including a major focus on vulnerable populations such as the homeless,low-income individuals, People with limited access to healthcare, and those impacted by the devastating lahaina fires. As the only medical team authorized to access ground zero during the wildfire crisis, we deployed our mobile medical unit to provide urgent care to fire survivors before other teams were able to set up. Our team, consisting of er physicians, pa/np's, nurses, and medical assistants. Played a critical role in providing care under extraordinary circumstances, treating a wide range of injuries and health conditions. Beyond disaster response, our efforts included routine healthcare services, aimed at alleviating the burden on maui's only hospital and emergency room. We provided comprehensive medical care, including primary health assessments, chronic disease management, mental health support, and preventative services to those who otherwise would have limited or no access to care due to financial or transportation barriers. Through the support of generous donors, Modo for the People has made a tangible impact in maui's most underserved areas, working to create a healthier, more equitable community where healthcare is a right, not a privilege. In total, our program activities in 2023 have not only alleviated the strain on local medical resources but have also brought vital care to the doorsteps of over 1,000 individuals affected by the fire and countless others in need of everyday medical attention. Our work was also recognized globally, with media features on cnn, npr, abc, and nbc, amplifying our message of compassion and community care. Moving forward, Modo for the People continues to grow and adapt, with plans to expand services to even more communities in need across maui and beyond.
