The Montana Preservation Alliance (MPA) saves and protects Montana's historic places, traditional landscapes, and cultural heritage. We are the only statewide, not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing Montanans with the resources necessary to preserve our state's unique history and culture.

Program areas at Montana Preservation Alliance

Restoration and training:clients served: 32,000 in communities, statewide & national parksaccomplishments: rehabilitated and opened the baxendale schoolhouse Preservation center in helena; stabilized or rehabilitated historic properties in the helena national forest, kalispell, Virginia city, and dillon; hosted three hands-on training workshops at the baxendale schoolhouse Preservation center; and developed plans for launch of the preserve Montana trades corps.
Education and outreach:clients served: 10,000 population in communities served, statewide and nationwide accomplishments: completed the african american heritage on Montana's mining frontier interpretation project for Virginia city and madison; increased explore Montana app sites to 150; developed quarterly newsletter, monthly e-newsletter and numerous social media posts; maintained online Preservation guidance for Montana audiences; hosted rural schoolhouse Preservation workshop in lewis & clark and broadwater counties; facilitated archaeology internship program in the helena national forest; and developed wildfire guidelines for historic resources.
Technical assitance: 115,000 population of communities servedaccomplishments: technical support, community Preservation assistance and building assessments for threatened buildings and local development efforts in helena, Virginia city, condon, missoula, lincoln, broadwater county, and multiple other counties for the big sky schoolhouse initiative.
