Program areas at Mopria Alliance
MOPRIA TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: DURING 2022, UPDATES WERE MADE TO PRINT AND SCAN SPECIFICATIONS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO EXPAND FUNCTIONALITY. THE ALLIANCE DONATED MORE CODE TO THE ANDROID OPEN SOURCE PROJECT TO MAINTAIN THE ANDROID DEFAULT PRINT SERVICE, INTRODUCED IN ANDROID OREO IN 2017. THE ALLIANCE ALSO MADE PUBLIC ITS MOPRIA ALLIANCE eSCL SCAN SPECIFICATION TO ASSIST CHROME DEVELOPERS CREATE AND SUPPORT SCANNING ON CHROMEBOOKS. TECHNICAL WORKING GROUP ("TWG") CREATED AMENDMENTS TO THE MOPRIA PRINTER SPECIFICATION ADDING NEW FEATURES AND IMPROVED FUNCTIONALITY FOR THE PRINTING EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED TECHNICAL DETAILS TO ENABLE PRINTING FROM SUPPORTED DEVICES. VOLUNTEERS IN THE ALLIANCE FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD ARE DEVELOPING AND MAINTAINING MOPRIA SPECIFICATIONS, WHICH FEED THE CONTINUAL ENHANCEMENT ANDROID DEFAULT PRINT, SAMSUNG DEFAULT PRINT, AS WELL AS THE ALLIANCE'S MOBILE APPS: MOPRIA PRINT SERVICE AND MOPRIA SCAN.
Public education of Mopria standards: during 2022, the Alliance continued educating the mobile device, printer industry and its constituents regarding the benefits of unifying around common standards that simplify the ability to print, scan and perform other related tasks from mobile devices and computers. Consumer-friendly videos were updated and content in two new languages (french and italian) were added to the website to educate more users that mobile printing and scanning is easy and available on more operating systems. Ongoing education of Mopria standards and apps through public relations, media coverage, social media, and the Mopria blog volunteers in the Alliance from all over the world participated in education activities and lead a variety of contractors to produce the educational materials and complete education campaigns. Most of the world's printer manufacturers are now involved in the Alliance as a result of education and outreach efforts.
Mopria print service app & or, Mopria scan app, Mopria print library and Mopria scan library: the Alliance continued updating the Mopria print service android mobile app in 2022 to include new printing features based upon various Mopria Alliance specifications designed to improve overall user experience. Similar updates were made to the Mopria print library so that the samsung print service could continue offering access to Mopria certified products. Both the Mopria print service and the samsung print service are free apps that leverage the Mopria print library to give mobile devices (tablets, smart phones) the ability to print to a wide variety of consumer and business printers. The free Mopria scan app was adopted by more users, allowing them to scan from a multi-function printer or scanner to their mobile device. Volunteers in the Alliance from all over the world are helping to expand and maintain the Mopria scan and Mopria print service apps, along with the Mopria print library. These individuals are also directing the activities of contractors supporting this work. Both the Mopria print service and the samsung print service, containing the Mopria print library, were installed for free by millions of people by the end of 2022.
Product certification: the Alliance continued refining its certified product program to ensure all devices (computers, tablets, smart phones) and a variety of consumer and business printers and scanners follow Mopria Alliance specification standards and are able to communicate and complete related tasks. Certifying that products are using Mopria Alliance specification standards correctly makes it easier for manufacturers to ensure their products deliver a great customer experience, as well as make it easier for consumer and business users everywhere to find and purchase products that work seamlessly. At the end of 2022, there were 6,797 certified total products of which 15 of those were servers, print accessories and middleware representing millions of new certified products created by 15 different companies across 30 brands. Subsequent modifications to the product certification program were made in order to support testing of ongoing specification updates. Volunteers in the Alliance from all over the world helped revise, maintain, and direct contractors supporting this product specification program.
