Program areas at Morris Museum

Exhibitions, collections, and theater: in fy2023 The Museum hosted 5 major art exhibitions on subjects ranging from mentorship in The region's black art-making community (with partner art in The atrium) to The photographic rock-and-roll chronicles of jay blakesburg, augmented by 18 smaller projects featuring standout objects from its 45,000+ collection and borrowed works of art. Collection-based installations of global material cultural property occupy significant portions of The 1913, mckim, mead & white-designed twin oaks mansion and The modern facilities, among them The world-renowned murtaugh guinness collection of mechanical musical instruments and automata. The 312-seat bickford theater and outside facilities hosted audiences for 23 live music and dance events and 7 films.
Public education: a layered approach to hosting organized pre-k-12 groups through partnerships with over 50 schools brought over 3,000 students to The Museum for tours and art-making activities and in-school programming. Additionally, The Museum creates opportunities for self-directed and facilitated learning experiences through festival events (on-site and regionally), family days, and The smithsonian spark!lab for hands-on learning on stem and steam principles through creative play.
