Program areas at Mother and Child Education Center
Completed 52 years of continuous programming, open five days per week for direct support, classes, and connections to partner agencies, and operated a 24-hour parenting support line in english and spanish. In 2023, Mother and Child saw a 25% increase in the number of client visits to our Center over 2022, with 4,100 vists. Classes including childbirth,newborn care, safe sleep for infants,baby wearing, raising your Child to be a reader and disaster preparedness through a trauma-informed lens. Mcec provided community outreach through partner agencies such as wic, healthy birth initiative,nurse family partnership,hospitals, website and social media. We provided more than 85,000 items of food, clothing, hygiene and personal care items,diapers, blankets, pre-natal vitamins, books, formula, and other suppliessuch as car seats, cribs, and strollers through classes and on-site appointments. Clients gained practical parenting skills, created healthy environments for children, and gained tools to advocate for themselves and their families. Approximately 75% of clients who come to Mother and Child for the first time were already parenting children, and 25% were pregnant. During 2023,mother and Child experienced an increase in serving refugees from haiti, afghanistan, russia, ukraine, mexico and other countries.
