GEOGRAPHIES OF KINSHIP - THE KOREAN ADOPTION STORY, follows Korean adoptees from the U.S. and Europe on their journeys to reconnect with their birth country and piece together their past. Their riveting stories serve as a sprinboard for exploring the complex history of transnational adoptions of Korean children from the 1950s to the present. The film is in post-production and will be completed in 2017.MEMORY OF FORGOTTEN WAR is a half hour documentary that conveys the human costs of military conflict through deeply personal accounts of the Korean War (1950-53) by four Korean-American survivors. Their stories take audiences through the trajectory of the war, from extensive bombing campaigns, to day-to-day struggle for survival, and separation from family members across the DMZ. The film was nominated for Best Documentary Short and Best Director at the 2015 Queens World Film Festival, then had a very successful PBS broadcast premiere in May 2015. Presented by Center for Asian American Media, the film had over 1038 telecasts on 241 PBS stations nationwide. The film continues to be distributed to educational institutions throughout the country and is also available for individual users via the Mu Films website.LEGACIES OF THE KOREAN WAR - this is a new online oral history project wwwlegaciesofthekoreanwarorgthat documents the memories and experiences of Korean American survivors, their descendants, and other members of the war-formed Korean diaspora. By honoring and giving voice to the memories of Korean Americans whose lives were shaped by the war, this archive seeks to foster peace and reconciliation in our communities and in Korea. Sponsored by UC Berkeley's Center for Korean Studies, the archive was formally launched on October 17, 2015 at the David Brower Center. There were remarks by oral-history participants and contributors, scholarly presentations on war memory, and screenings of oral history video short documentaries.KOREANS AND CAMPTOWN CONFERENCE - In cooperation with the Center for Korean Studies at UC Berkeley and the non-profit organization, Me & Korea, Mu Films co-sponsored and developed the programming for the first Koreans and Camptown Conference, a one-day conference on September 26, 2015 about the camptowns that developed alongside American military bases in Korea during and after the Korean War. The conference spotlighted the intersection of American military presence and Korean society, focusing on exploring the lives of people who lived in the camptowns and the historical context surounding the overseas adoption of thousands of mised-race children.CROSSINGS - In 2015, Mu Films began development on a new documentary, CROSSINGS, about a determined group of internationally renowned women peacemakers who attempt the impossible: crossing the demilitarized zone (DMZ) from North to South Korea, calling for peace on the Korean peninsula. The film follows key women leaders from twelve countries, including two Nobel peace laureates, on this historic journey as they face political and and social obstacles, mixed public opinion, fear, and red-baiting. Through their journey, CROSSINGS will tell a story of global resonance about a divded nation and explore enduring questions about war's legacies and the role women play in resolving the world's most intractable conflicts.
