Program areas at Multicultural Community Service
Mcs offers fee-based interpretation and translation services to reduce language barriers in an effort to further promote and foster civic participation by people with limited english proficiency. Interpretation and translation services were offered to clients in 22 languages (amharic, arabic, bengali, cantonese, chinese, french, german, haitian creole, hindi, italian, japanese, korean, lao, mandarin, portuguese, russian, spanish, tagalog, tigrinya, thai, urdu, and vietnamese). In partnership with Community healthcare centers, various dc government agencies, and local outreach, mcs served over 6,400 people.
Mcs encourages, promotes, and facilitates broad and inclusive civic participation. Providing language access services and education in the Washington, dc metro area in over 22 languages, mcs works to open and maintain language access for all dc residents through the language services program. Mcs provides interpretation and translation services, and participates in coalitions with other organizations to uphold the language access act and ensure civic engagement for all of dc's diverse communities. Mcs also fosters job training and professional development in the field, including a Community interpreter training course, annual workshops and skill-building seminars.
