The Museum of History & Industry (mohai) is treasured locally and respected nationally as a vibrant resource where History inspires people to be their best, individually and collectively. The Museum is located in lake union park, in the south lake union area of Seattle, washington.mohai is the largest private heritage organization in the state of Washington. By collecting and preserving artifacts and stories of the puget sound region's diverse History, mohai highlights the region's tradition of innovation and imagination. Through compelling exhibits, scholarship, education, public programs, and community engagement, mohai bridges the past, present, and future.
Mohai's offerings for youth include on-site Museum field trips, artifact trunk rentals, in-class programs, teacher trainings, and online lesson plans to help teachers introduce students to local History, as well as summer camps for kids. Mohai's offerings for adults and families include guided programs in the Museum and in Seattle neighborhoods, as well as lectures and talks on local History, and seasonal festivities and programs in the Museum's lakeside setting in lake union park. Visitors to lake union park are welcomed free of charge to mohai's restrooms, caf, and retail shop throughout the year.mohai maintained a robust public communication program throughout 2023, including the Museum website (mohai.org), the Museum's facebook (24,000 followers) and instagram (14,000) social sites, twitter (16,000 followers), linkedin (2,000 followers) and youtube channel (1,300 subscribers).in 2023, attendance returned to pre-pandemic levels with 78,000 visitors through the doors, including attendees of special events, lectures, and more than 10,000 school group visitors. Mohai also continued off-site and digital programming, which reached nearly 5,000 people with classroom resources, and live streamed lectures and workshops. 55% of in-person Museum attendees in 2023 enjoyed the Museum free of charge or at a discounted rate. This includes nearly 10,000 youth aged 14 and under who receive free admission every day at mohai, free admission through our many accessibility programs, as well as admission discounts for students, seniors, and military members. Over 7,000 people came to mohai in 2023 through one of our admission-accessibility programs, like teentix, museums for all, the library Museum pass program, the mohai access pass, free first thursday, and the open doors program.
2023 proved to be one of the strongest years in mohai History, as the Museum rebounded from the pandemic, set summertime attandance records, saw the return of on-site school groups, developed expanded community partnerships, and presented a series of high-profile exhibits and special programs. Through both digital and in person programs, mohai reached approximately 120,000 residents, including students, program attendees, exhibit visitors, and online participants. Our exhibits included northwest and west coast premiers on topics that ranged from the renaissance to the digital age. Our exhibits included the prestigious neddy awards in visual arts and the major league all-star display in conjunction with the 2023 mlb all-star game in Seattle.
