Program areas at Music Artists Coalition

Advocating for reform of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA) to protect artists in an evolved digital world and close loopholes in the DMCA to protect creators.
Monitoring implementation of the Music Modernization Act (MMA), passed in October 2018, which reforms the process of music licensing and creates a formalized body, the Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC), run by publishers, that (a) administers the "mechanical licensing" of compositions on streaming services, and (b) funds the creation of a first-of-its-kind, comprehensive database. The corporation seeks to ensure that the policies and procedures developed under the MMA create a system by which songwriters have ease of collection of their royalties and ensure that the MLC is not used by licensees as a tool to convince congress to create regulated or compulsory systems with respect to any other song writer's income stream.
Advocating for no change to be made to the consent decrees between the two largest performing rights organizations and the U.S. Department of Justice.
