Program areas at Music for Autism
Established in the united states in 2007, Music for Autism provides interactive concerts for individuals with Autism and their families. Music for Autism presents free concerts in new york, California, Texas, and Maryland, and also works with the performing community to promote increased understanding of and adaptation for the needs of concertgoers on the autistic spectrum. In 2023 the organization held 17 virtual concerts, and 11 in-person concerts in new york, Texas and Maryland Music for Autism's founder and board member, psychiatrist dr. robert accordino, has developed a research-based methodology to train performers and concert facilitators in best practices of creating a sensory-friendly performance environment appropriate to those on the Autism spectrum. Since 2007, we have now held almost 270 concerts to more than 12,000 individuals with Autism and their families, serving those who would otherwise be excluded from these artistic experiences by virtue of their disability.
