Program areas at Music Mends Minds
Since Music Mends Minds was featured in a cover story and lead article in the may, 2022 edition of rotary international magazine in may 2022, mmm has begun to establish new affiliated Music groups worldwide, in collaboration with local rotary clubs in countries such as the uk, canada, india, rwanda, uganda, argentina, bulgaria and the philippines. Our biggest, most important outreach, however, is the expanded relationship we are now pioneering with the public sector aging & disabilities and parks & recreation agencies in los angeles. These relationships bring together the health and arts sectors to collaborate with us on planning and starting new, free Music groups in (con sch o) county and city senior centers. We are, in fact, focused on "democratizing" the medicine of Music by targeting diverse and underserved communities historically overlooked by virtually every new paradigm in healthcare and inclusion. We currently have 12 free weekly Music groupsbands, singalongs and drum circlesat both public and private sector senior facilities. We also still have a three-times weekly virtual Music therapy session for those seniors and caregivers who don't leave home. Live and virtually, mmm is reaching over 1,500 seniors and caregivers monthly. This outreach has brought new attention, additional collaborations with the world's top neuroscientific researchers, and new opportunities for thought leadership in this vital conversation. It is hoped that we will, at long last, begin to change the attitude of the health insurance universe who has, to date, kept itself far removed from supporting, and reimbursing for, the health and wellness intervention of "prescriptive arts". Indeed, by supporting Music as medicine for seniors, especially those with neurodegenerative challenges, we feel the health establishment can do well by doing good.
